ADHD
What is ADHD?
ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, is a neuro-developmental disorder that affects attention, focus, and impulse control. It can impact both children and adults, making daily tasks challenging.

ADHD has three primary presentations:
-
Combined Type: This type involves both inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity. Individuals may struggle with maintaining focus and hyperactivity/controlling impulses.
-
Inattentive Type: In this type, the predominant challenge is inattention. It can be harder for individuals to stay focused on tasks and follow through with instructions or responsibilities.
-
Hyperactive/Impulsive Type: This type primarily involves hyperactivity and impulsivity. Individuals may be overly active, have difficulty sitting still, and act impulsively without thinking through the consequences.

There is hope for improvement for individuals with ADHD.
ADHD Treatment Options:
Medical:  Medical treatments often include medications prescribed by a healthcare professional such as psychostimulants. These can help manage symptoms and improve daily functioning. However, an approach of medication with counselling often yields the best results.

Psychological: Psychological treatments, such as counselling, play
a crucial role in ADHD management.
Through counselling, individuals learn several valuable strategies to:
-
Improve time management and organization
-
Strategies for reducing distractions
-
Enhance coping skills for stress and frustration
-
Boost self-esteem and confidence
-
Encouraging physical activity
Helpful Tip:
One powerful tip for managing ADHD is to create a structured daily routine. A consistent schedule can provide stability and make it easier to stay on track. Prioritizing tasks and setting achievable goals within this routine can further improve productivity.
