No Longer Accepting New Clients

Office:  403-948-3968

Welcome to my therapist page, please take a minute to see if I am the psychologist for you. It can be helpful to know a bit about the psychologist or any other professional, medical practitioner whom you are seeking service or treatment from.

Counselling Statement:

My name is Shannon and I am a Registered Psychologist at the Airdrie Counselling Centre.

I have been working in mental health for over 10 years with a specialized focus on children, youth, and their families. I enjoy working with individuals, families, and couples-- all are welcome!

I use an attachment and family systems theory approach in counselling; we are all emotionally connected whether it's with our families, friends, or peers. Our experiences and interactions with these humans deeply matter; it's important to understand how we interpret our experiences and how it affects us.  Our environments also have the ability to impact the way we interpret our experiences and interactions; it can be helpful to develop an awareness of the common 'tape reels' we have set on repeat to assist in challenging ourselves and taking steps towards wellness.

Carl Rogers developed a counselling approach named Person-Centred Therapy and I've adopted his three core conditions: to listen with empathy--be present and genuine, to be non-judgmental, and to have unconditional positive regard for my clients.

I am goal-oriented in my sessions and enjoy being interactive with my clients (using art, games, craft, and play). Sometimes I may give activities for you to engage in at home until I see you again. I think that sounds so much better than homework :)

I very much enjoy feedback and always invite you to help steer our counselling path; my goal is to ensure you feel supported throughout this process wherever you are at.

Thank you for reading and take care!
