Psychoeducational and ADHD Assessments
Psychoeducational and ADHD assessments help clarify how a child or teen learns, pays attention, and manages day-to-day demands; so families and schools can make informed decisions about support and next steps.
What Are Psychoeducational Assessments?
A psychoeducational assessment is a comprehensive evaluation that examines cognitive abilities (how the brain processes information), academic skills (reading, writing, math), attention/executive functioning, memory, and emotional/behavioural factors that can affect learning. Results identify learning strengths and challenges, possible learning disabilities, ADHD, giftedness, and areas where supports or accommodations could help.
Who Are Assessments For?
We currently provide assessments for children and youth (approximately ages 6-16) who may be experiencing:
• Suspected ADHD (inattention, impulsivity, hyperactivity)
• Learning differences (reading, writing, math)
• Giftedness/twice-exceptional profiles
• School struggles (work completion, organization, test performance)
• Behavioural or emotional concerns that may be impacting learning
Please Note: Adult assessment services are being explored for the future. If you’re an adult seeking assessment, please get in touch with us to discuss options.
What To Expect
1. Intake & History – A detailed interview to understand concerns, developmental and school history, and assessment goals.
2. Testing Sessions – One or more in-person appointments using standardized tools to assess cognition, academics, attention/executive skills, memory, and related areas.
3. Questionnaires – Parents/guardians (and teachers when appropriate) complete rating scales to provide perspectives across settings.
4. Scoring & Clinical Integration – Your clinician interprets results, integrating history, test data, and questionnaires.
5. Feedback Appointment – We review findings in plain language, answer questions, and map out next steps.
6. Written Report – You receive a clear, comprehensive report with results, diagnoses (when applicable), and tailored recommendations for home and school.
Standard Tools We May Use
Standardized measures may include cognitive, academic, attention/executive-function, memory, and social–emotional instruments (e.g., WISC-V, WIAT, Conners, BASC, Vineland, Brown, MASC, CDI, etc.). Your clinician selects the most appropriate measures based on your child’s needs.
Timeline & Fees
• Timeline: Varies based on scheduling and the complexity of the referral. We’ll outline an estimated timeframe at intake.
• Fees & Insurance: Many health plans provide coverage for services by Registered Psychologists. Coverage varies by plan, please check with your insurer regarding coverage for assessments. For general rates and billing information, see our Fees & Insurance page or contact us.
How To Prepare
• Ensure your child is well-rested and has a snack/water.
• Bring glasses or hearing aids if applicable, and any school reports, past assessments, or IPP/SSP documents.
• If your child takes medication, follow your current plan unless your clinician provides specific guidance.
After The Assessment
We can, at your request, collaborate with schools and other providers to help implement recommendations. We’re also available for follow-up appointments to support implementation and monitor progress.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a diagnosis part of the assessment?
When appropriate and supported by the data, diagnoses (e.g., ADHD, Specific Learning Disorder) may be provided. In other cases, the focus is on a detailed learning profile with targeted recommendations.
Will you speak to my child’s teacher?
With your written consent, we may gather information from teachers and share key recommendations after your feedback session.
Do you offer autism assessments?
We can screen for learning and attention concerns that may overlap with autism. If a complete ASD diagnostic assessment is needed, we can discuss referral options.
How often should assessments be updated?
This varies by age and purpose. Many schools accept results for several years; updates may be recommended when there are significant changes or new questions.
Do you direct bill insurance?
Coverage and billing vary by plan. Please get in touch with our admin team to review options.
